A side event by PPC Japan will be held in conjunction with the 62nd APPA Forum. For this side event, we will invite speakers from domestic and international data protection authorities, academia, experts, and companies to actively discuss topics such as Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) and the use and protection of personal data in the digital age in light of the latest trends.

[Panel Discussion Session 1]

Theme : Data Free Flow with Trust -Discussion by Multi-stakeholders -

We will discuss three key areas: (1) model contractual clauses, (2) mutual adequacy arrangements, and (3) corporate certification systems as specific mechanisms for promoting DFFT. The discussion will cover corporate initiatives and challenges, the impact on consumers, and the policies to expect from data protection authorities in each area and we aim to explore the direction we should take and challenges in order to further improve specific mechanisms for the safe and smooth cross-border transfer of personal data from various perspectives through this discussion.

Theme: Balancing the Use and Protection of Personal Data in the Digital Age - in view of the PETs and Advanced Technology -

We will explore the current state and challenges of utilizing personal data through advanced technologies, the efforts of data protection authorities and companies in safeguarding personal information using PETs, and areas where the use of advanced technologies is expected in the future. The discussion will involve perspectives from data protection authorities, experts, companies, and consumers to seek functions that data protection rules and DPA should fulfill in order to support the utilization of personal data in the digital age which is based on advanced data processing.
